Curriculum Mission

The purpose of this curriculum is to provide a research-based framework using leveled cycles to help teach number knowledge. It is intended to be flexible based on the teacher and student needs.  

Why number cycles?  

Research shows that children learn numbers best with: 

-Explicit instruction of the letter name, sound, and it’s role in counting and math

-Repeated exposures  

-Hands-on practice 

-Auditory discrimination among numbers

-Visual discrimination among numbers

-Practice applying knowledge in a variety of ways 

The traditional way of teaching one number a week numerically is ineffective. It teaches numbers in isolation and does not support opportunities to compare and reteach. It teaches for mastery in one week and does not revisit numbers once they are taught.
